A Grandmother’s Love – Give Nola Day Success Story – MAY 3, 2022

Meet Travelers Aid Society of Greater New Orleans client Mrs. D. She was evicted from her previous home after the death of her husband. She had an income through SSDI, but without the second income from her husband, she could no longer afford to live on her ownMrs. D has children, but refused assistance from them because they have families of their own and did not want to take away from her grandchildren. She spent several years living on the street and in shelters before becoming a client at TAS’s Permanent Supportive Housing program.

Mrs. D said she was eager to begin the housing program because “I just want a place to bring my grandbabies. I can’t have them visiting me under the bridge.” When she was given the keys to her new apartment, she laughed and cried saying the first thing she was going to do was bake sweets in her new oven to feed her grandkids like a real grandmother.

Mrs. D now gets to see her family whenever she wants and can even help provide for her family again. So many in our community are just like Mrs. D – one life altering event away from homelessness. Our goal at Travelers Aid Society of Greater New Orleans is to support our homeless community and give them access to an independent self-sufficient life.

Please join us in the fight to end homelessness this Give Nola Day with a gift to support clients like Mrs. D.
